Whether two or three dimensional art , I create
with Kandinsky,s reference to the 'inner necessity'
and it has propelled me for nearly 35 years,
aiming to put Spirit into matter.
Take a look and let me know what you
think at armstrongstudio.msn.com. If
you see something you like, wonderful.
If you see a work close to one of your
own ideas or color schemes, great.
I am alway interested in doing
commissions either as a flat work or as
a sculpture.
Please look below. Note the many awards that I
have garnered.
I have taught the arts (primarily for Waldorf schools
but also for parks and recreation) for more than thirty
years as a visual artist, set and lighting designer,
actor, director and producer; as well as working in
interior design and landscaping. My experience
includes working for Disney and, have been twice
donned "Top Twenty Regional Artist" by AT&Ts art
shows in Central California.

Bio & Statement
True art comes from a place that is on a different level than the workaday world. I have studied
works, theories and philosophies of Goethe, Steiner and Kandinsky. Kandinsky sums it the best
when he says the 'inner necessity' of creating is the foundation for creativity. My work comes in
cycles, 30 images over a 30 day period for example and than a wait for the next impulse which may
be weeks or months away. In the meantime, I play music, ride bikes with my child and study
metaphysics.
In the fervor of life, the creative impulse can be smothered by all that it takes to live. But, I will thank
my mother who gave me crayons, paint by number kits, and an eraser (that I, at first, thought was a
piece of vanilla fudge.) I advanced to model car making. I have always used my hands since my
younger days playing guitar, gesturing on stage and making art. Now, I earn my living making art
for the Garden & Nursery industry with occasional inroads into the gallery scene. It is a form of
Industrial design. The repetition is mildly soul numbing but taking a Zen like approach allows every
moment to be important, to be alive and this is the ticket. Creating new pieces is the gravy.
I learned, at the UW, in Seattle, from George Tsutakawa and at the Rudolph Steiner College not to
go with the first impulse. More than once, I have taken works that led me down a visual path only to
turn it upside down and continue on. Rhythm, spirit, soul, and the linking to other planes is what I
attempt to do. The work is a listening of the heart and a sensing of the art using soulful, soft moving
lines or spirited bucking lines, crossing and overlapping, making points of life and light sparkle off
the paper. And somehow, most can be seen as faces.
There is hidden energy and planes every where. There are avenues that take deep contemplation
as well as avenues that are simply ways to be spoken to from one of those hidden planes. I have
studied and taught tai-chi, Aikido and play a handful of instruments. They provide improvisational
dancing with 'chi'. Some of my work is small, some are a nice average size. I am looking forward to
now going large. .
